Joint Contract Negotiations Update – Aug 27, 2012

Today the Joint Negotiating Committee met with United Airlines management for the first time. The meeting took place in downtown Chicago.

The meeting was an opportunity for the Union and Company negotiating committees to introduce themselves to each other, and make some brief opening remarks regarding our views for the bargaining that lies ahead. Neither the JNC or United management made any Contract proposals at the meeting. Our first piece of business will be to agree on a protocol for conducting negotiations which will cover mostly logistical issues like where we will meet, how often, setting the agenda and a calendar.

Since we were last together at our training in New Jersey JNC members have been reviewing survey results and member submitted proposals from their respective airlines. The JNC will remain in Chicago for the next two weeks to continue our review of our three Contracts and start formulating what a successor Contract will look like. This is what will constitute our Opening position to United management. We have proposed to United that we will present the Opener to them when we next meet in November. We anticipate the JNC and United management will agree to a Negotiations Protocol in the next few weeks.

Unifying under the world’s largest Flight Attendant agreement is crucial as we continue to build our future together as the world’s largest airline, and we look forward to doing just that.
