The JNC has just concluded our fourth direct negotiations session with management in Houston this week.
We traded proposals with United on the following issues:
- Crew Lounges
- Passports, Visas and Immunizations
- Commuter Policy
- We received a counter proposal from United on Cabin Jumpseat, and we presented them with our proposal on Deadheading.
The tone of this past meeting was much more reflective of our fist session in that management emphasized their preference that our Contract should not be filled with rules. A number of proposals from both sides were exchanged, however not much progress was made. We are disappointed that management’s proposals are short and purposefully vague. To that end, management feels that many of the long-standing language in our Contracts should be replaced with company policy. This is not going to happen.
With four direct negotiating sessions under our belt, we have already detected a deliberate pattern of the company being unwilling to develop improvements for Flight Attendants, while at the same time attempting to take back longstanding Contract language at all three airlines.
We continue to develop our proposals based on the interests of our Flight Attendants. When we receive counter proposals from management, we are doing our best to address their issues in earnest, however these are not concessionary negotiations. We are focused on building a Joint Contract that improves and enhances our lives at work at home. The best Flight Attendant Contract in the world requires the structure and protection of Contract language, not company policy.
Negotiations will resume on April 8, 2013 in Orlando
We will be updating the MECs from all three carriers on the progress of negotiations and also presenting them with more Contract proposals for their review and approval. This presentation will take place in a closed session on April 4-5.
