“1” Campaign Launches System Wide Solidarity Events

(Authored by your Joint Communication Committee)

Over the past few weeks it has become more evident just how important it is for our 3 work groups to continue to unite in Solidarity. Solidarity is a concept that sits at the core of any union. It’s a term that we use frequently, but it’s easy to lose sight of what it really means. No individual among us has much voice or influence, but when all of us come together as one, there’s no end to the amazing feats we can accomplish. Solidarity is the ability to overcome seemingly impossible obstacles, to achieve some of our biggest and grandest goals. As more of us continue to join together, we continue to grow in strength. By getting involved with our union, by supporting the Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC) and contributing in whatever way you can, you are taking ownership of your future, and helping to realize the dream of a fully United workforce.

On June 1st, our Joint AFA MEC’s, the JNC and Flight Attendants system-wide will launch the “1” Campaign, celebrating Solidarity, and the successes it will bring us. Each domicile/base will host a special unity get-together as Flight Attendants from Continental, Continental Micronesia, and United join together as “1” in support of securing the best contract in the industry.

  • O.N.E.s (Our Negotiations Experts) will be attending each of these local events. These dedicated men and women from all three subsidiaries are here to address your questions and concerns face-to face, and offer you a means to provide feedback to the JNC.
  • O.N.E.s are also available across the system, from your jumpseats to your domiciles/bases. Look for Flight Attendants wearing the green O.N.E. extended tag underneath their ID badges, and feel free to ask them any questions you have about the ongoing contract negotiations.

If you’re available, make sure to attend a local event! It’s a great time to meet fellow Flight Attendants, make new friends, and get your questions and concerns answered. Contact your local council for the O.N.E. event taking place in your area.

Remember, this is your Contract, and involvement is ownership. When we join together as ONE, there is nothing that cannot be accomplished!

The Joint Communication Committee is looking for talented and enthusiastic Members who would like to get involved and make an impact on our Negotiations. Besides the written communications, we are looking for ways to utilize short videos to communicate with Flight Attendants across the system.

It doesn’t matter whether you’ve got professional training, or you are self-taught and like to play around with video, this could be an opportunity to showcase your talent and creativity to over 25,000 Flight Attendants.  We are looking for a number of individuals with their own sets of skills and talents; the more creative people we have involved, the better the outcome.

Our challenge to you is:

Create a short video, which does O.N.E. of the following,

  • Promotes www.ourunited.org
  • Illustrates the importance of being involved in the Negotiations process by being educated and informed
  • Demonstrates that when Flight Attendants are unified we are stronger in Negotiations
  • Shows the excitement of Flight Attendants from all three carriers coming together in common purpose

Videos should be no longer than 60 seconds and no shorter than 15 seconds. You can submit an actual video, a slide-show picture presentation, a flash animation, or anything else that creatively promotes our coming together and achieving the world’s best Flight Attendant Contract. Enter your submission through www.ourunited.org by June 30, 2013.

If videos just aren’t your thing, but you are interested in donating your time and talent in other ways, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact us at communications@ourunited.org with your name, file/employee number, domicile/base, email address and phone number and we’ll get back to you.

If you have any questions at all, email communications@ourunited.org.

We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming O.N.E. events, and are excited to see your video submissions.
